Description
Canada: 2018 $100 Portrait of a Princess 10 oz. Pure Silver Coin
Design: The original 1951 photograph of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (then Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth) is expertly reproduced on your coin, where Her Majesty faces left with head turned toward the viewer. Her Majesty wears an off-the-shoulder evening gown and the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara in this head and shoulders portrait, one of several taken by the Yousuf Karsh at Clarence House on July 30, 1951, ahead of the 1951 Royal Tour of Canada. Multiple finishes and a proof field evoke the dramatic interplay of light and shadow, the hallmark of Karsh's style, which earned him international acclaim as one of the great portrait photographers of the 20th century. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
