Description
Poland: A Polish lobster-tailed helmet for officers, circa 1630.
One-piece forged blackened, sixfold ribbed skull, on the top round, embossed brass apex plate with hanging loop. Pointed, riveted peak with a rolled edge, nasally adjustable with a heart-shaped screw. Laterally attached, large cheek flaps, each with five auditory openings. Quadruple slit neck brace with scalloped edges and beaded edge. Lining and fastening rivets coated all around with brass. Blackened on the inside, some rivets replaced, leather covering partly older. Height 30cm.
